Rafael Barret "Dreams"

Ok, so this is it, the first article, it's likely occasionally i will post a little bit of text before and or after  the article itself, but not this time, i hope you don't mind, anyway, here it is:

                                                                       Dreams

If life is dream, also dreaming is life and occult fountain in which drink the sad and superstitious souls. The dream, son of the tiredness and of the night, image of death, has maybe secrets similar to those that death encloses, and the sour lyre of the antipathic Quevedo, in glossing this matter, allows at last to drop tunes sweet and graves. According to vulgar feeling, the dream speaks us of what worried us more during the day. But it is not always what worries us what more matters to us and to believe certain fine geniuses, to dream resurrects the neglected ideas. Thus, Decharte, impassioned character of France, says: “We see at night the disgraced remains of what we have omitted in the wake. The dream often is the retaliation of the despised things, the reproach of the abandoned beings. Hence their unforeseen and their melancholy sometimes”. Admit or not the nervous theories of the Räbl-Rückhard and of the Cajal to explain it, we cannot deny, without needing of somnambulism or of mediums, that the dream put us in contact with new realities. Sufficient is the example of the ill organs, which pains are dreamed before being suffered in the normal conscience, fact that constitutes the first symptom of some lesions in the internal and insensitive parts of the organism. Porfirio observes that of the notions of dream we discourse, up to a certain point, when we are awake, but that we do not acquire the knowledge and perception of them but by the dream itself, and takes out a remarkable result: “Through intelligence we say something about the superior principle to the intelligence, but we have intuition of it much better by an absence of though than by the though” Here is the metaphysical justification of the religious ecstasies, which is a dream as well.

Let’s not ask high mystic to the primitive towns; let’s piously consider the interpretations the Paraguayan farmers give to their dreams. It’s not strange that dreaming flowers means luck; Climbing a ladder, honours; Cats, treachery; Horned animals, infidelity; blood, crime. An analogy easy to find makes that the dream, where appear blonds, announce money; if there appear white ghosts, death; If bulls, in love; if beautiful children, sympathy; if watermelons, pregnancy. The analogy is poetic in the case of broken eggs, which symbolizes disgrace, and deliciously tender in the contemplation of the moon, for it is sign that the lover remembers his loves with affection. A violent contrast imposes to the lice and the trash which represent prosperity. The woman that dreams with any green fruit will wait future pregnancy. Curious illustration of the races: Dreaming with blacks means illness, with mulattos money; with Indians, joy. The wagons alert bad news. ¿Why, if our teeth fall in our sleep, must we fear dying and if snakes appear to a girl she will have suitors, and the meat brings mourning, and the female sex good fortune? ¡Mystery! But the next, in this suffered country, is demonstrated by itself: Dreaming with parrots means dispute, and with tigers or lions the visit of authority.
